County Plow Out of Service Ahead of Midweek Snowfall

January 20, 2026

SANDY BLUFF – The Sparrow County Highway Department announced Monday that one of the county’s three snowplows has been taken offline for emergency repairs, leaving the team short‑handed as a midweek snowfall approaches.

Road Supervisor Mike Caroll confirmed that the No. 2 plow experienced a hydraulic failure during a routine systems check late Sunday. Replacement parts are already on order, but repairs are not expected to be completed before the storm arrives.

“We’ll keep the main routes clear,” Caroll said. “It just may take us a little longer than folks are used to.”

With only two operational plows, the county will prioritize:

  • Primary roads and school routes
  • Access to the Mink River Bridge
  • Emergency service corridors
  • Downtown Sandy Bluff and Bell’s Crossing intersections

Secondary and rural roads – especially those stretching between Fox Run, Leland Grove, and the northern fields – may experience extended delays depending on snowfall totals.

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Park off-street when possible
  • Allow extra travel time
  • Keep driveways and roadside areas clear
  • Check in on neighbors who may need assistance

The Highway Department will provide updates through the county website and the Sparrow County Herald as conditions develop.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience,” Caroll added. “We’ll get the job done.”
